Donna's Daily Diary - January 30, 2010

My first appointment today is a man, late 50’s, divorced and, his long term goal is marriage. Although I would have matches for him, I would be limited in matching him because his two divorces wiped him out financially. His yearly income would be 36K but he is a contractor and “not working much right now.” He is interested in ladies 49 to 59. I told him the ladies I work with are looking for men who are on a compatible income level and most of them are on a much higher level of income, especially in this age range. He seemed surprised. He had been trying to meet ladies on Craig’s List and had some bad experiences. I asked him if he was aware that Craig’s List had an extremely bad reputation as far as their singles site is concerned. He said “Yeah, but it was free.” He said he really wants to work with me and he will come back in a couple of weeks with a payment. He once lived in a million dollar home but two divorces later, in this economy, he is doing his best to regroup. He has been divorced for three years and misses sharing his life with someone special. He said “I will have financial stability again and if I can find a lady who understands and supports where I am right now at least I will know she loves me for me and not my money.” I said “After two marriages that drained you financially it is a little surprising that you want to be married again.” He said “Whether I am rich or poor, if I love a woman and she loves me, I want to be married. I loved being married.” A true romantic.

My second appointment is a man, late 30’s, ABS, his long term goal is marriage and children. This young man has been focused on his education and career and has arrived at a place where he has accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish before getting married and starting a family. He is physically active and enjoys climbing the 14er’s, mountain biking, snowboarding, golf and tennis. He also enjoys the arts, theater, concerts and travel. He is very tall and appreciates a woman who is at least 5’7. He has always joked with his family that his sons would be basketball players if he married a tall lady. At Christmas dinner he made another reference to that and his sister said “Well, if you had a boy tomorrow you would be 60 when he graduates from college.” His mother said “That’s OK, son. I can see myself going to my grandsons basketball game when I am 85.” He said “I have always felt like I had all the time in the world to get married and start a family but their comments made me think about making it more of a priority.” He has been seeing and hearing my ads for years and decided to check it out. He said “If anyone had told me a few years that I would be joining a dating service I would have said “no way” but this actually makes a lot of sense.” I agree.

One of my clients called me from the ski slopes today to say he decided he would like me to find him a lady 25 to 35 who is interested in having children. Previously, he was thinking that he was probably too old to start a family. He is in his late 40’s. If he had a child today he would be 72 when his child graduates from college. Once again, it makes me think about how many people will be going to their children’s graduations and receiving their AARP cards in the mail at the same time.

To be continued Tuesday……………………….
