Donna's Daily Diary - February 4, 2010
My first appointment today is a man, late 50’s, divorced and his long term goal is marriage. He is self employed and has an income of 35K a year. He is tall, he doesn’t smoke, in good shape, traditional and a strong believer. He is also taking dancing lessons and buying a new motorcycle. He is planning some long trips on the motorcycle, like to California. I told him the only limiting factor as for as matching him is concerned is his income level. Most of the ladies I work with in the age range he is interested in (48 to 60) are on a much higher income level and are looking for a man with a similar income. He does not have the money to invest in my service. He is already committed to the motorcycle. He’s a nice guy but he was more excited talking about the motorcycle than he was when we were talking about ladies..it’s a matter of priorities. Compatible incomes are important to pay attention to because most people want someone who can enjoy and afford to make the same lifestyle choices. Men who are financially stable don’t generally mind if a woman makes less money. Women prefer men who make at least as much or more. Today, women can and do make as much or more money than many men and they can be taken advantage of as much as men with money. It’s another way men and women are becoming more alike. Whoopee!
Feedback from a lady who met a man for the first time: “We spent an hour and a half together and I bet I talked for maybe five minutes. He knows nothing about me. He did not ask me one question.” At first she thought he was nervous then she didn’t care why he was going on and on, she wanted to leave. When someone does that they are usually nervous or not interested or both. It is important to try to keep the conversation balanced and be mindful of listening as well as talking. Of course, when it’s right and two people click everything flows and it is much easier. Dating 101…if someone is not asking you questions or allowing you to talk they are probably not interested. I think it is better to say “It was nice to meet you, gotta go” than sit there and endure it like she did.
