Donna's Daily Diary - March 4, 2010

Tonight is First Thursday at the Ritz, our 6th one, and we are expecting a great group of people. There will be plenty of food and lots of fun. $15 gets you a $5 coupon for the Ritz, a happy hour drink, the scrumptious appetizers, and the opportunity to mix and mingle. Join us if you can, it starts at 5:30 and it’s not just for single people, everyone is welcome.

My first appointment today is a lady who owns a matchmaking service in Denver. Her model for matching is very different from mine in that she charges the men $3000 to $4500 and the ladies pay $150. She is obviously looking at the match more from the man’s perspective. She is looking for a match for a man who lives in Castle Rock and we met to see if I have any matches for him. He is 6’3, ABS, a teacher working his way up to administration, and his long term goal is marriage and children. I do have a lady I think is a good match for him and she has a couple of ladies who appear to be a good match for one of my clients. She thinks I should charge much more, especially since there is no time frame on my service. I said “Maybe, but this is Colorado Springs, not Denver.” It will be fun to try matching some of our clients with each other and see what happens.

Feedback today from a lady who met a man for the first time. She said “I almost fainted when he walked in the room. He looks so much like my ex-husband they could be twins.” Usually when someone resembles an “ex” it is not a good thing, but not so with this lady. They spent three hours together..broke the first rule which recommends the first meeting be an hour..had dinner..broke the second rule which recommends a meeting not be lunch or dinner…talked about their past relationships..broke another rule..agreed to get together again..they are suppose to call me with feedback first, and, last but not least, they had a couple of drinks and ended up making out in his car. This would probably all be fine except he is not interested in seeing her again. I spoke with him this morning and he basically said “Nice lady, fun, but I’m not attracted to her.” She was very surprised and disappointed but it would have gone very differently if they had followed the rules. Now I will call him back and ask some basic questions like “Why did you spend three hours, have dinner with her, and make out in your car if you weren’t attracted to her?” He’s a new client and this is how I get to know my clients. I may have a “player” on my hands. I will see how he responds to my questions. She said she is going to follow the rules from now on. Good idea!

My next appointment is a lady, 40, divorced, already retired from a military career and works for the government. I will write about her tomorrow because as soon as I finish this appointment I will be off to First Thursday at the Ritz. Hope to see you there!
