Donna's Daily Diary - October 27, 2009

My first appointment today is an early 50’s, soon to be divorced lady. She is very fragile, has not dated for over 25 years and, scared to death. She said “ I don’t know why I am so nervous.” I said “Maybe because you haven’t dated in 25 years. Just a wild guess.” I love helping people who are just getting “ back out there” to date. They listen to everything I say. They believe everything I tell them and they follow all my “rules”. They have no basis of comparison and they are usually very open minded. It is fun to work with them and help them become more focused and fine tuned. This lady is 5’6 and she said the shortest she would go was 5’10. I said “So, we are going to eliminate every man under 5’10?” She said, “OK, 5’9.” I said “If I have a perfect match for you in every way and he is 5’8, would you want to hear about him?” She said “Sure.” Easy. Take an hour to at least meet then decide. I encourage people to not limit themselves unnecessarily.

A client I have matched three times asked if she could come in to talk to me personally as opposed to a phone call and we met for about a half hour. She came in with what looked like a spread sheet on the three men I have introduced to her. There was a list of “pros and cons” for each man. Then there was her wish list of the “must haves” and the “can compromise” on. She wants to do everything she can to help me find the right man for her. She said “This is how I approach my business and I want to put the same effort into finding the right man.” Her information is very helpful and insightful and I appreciate her sincere effort to help me help her. She also brought me some delicious homemade cookies!

The couple I mentioned in September who sent me the chocolate covered strawberries has now gifted me with a Halloween basket full of CANDY, candle, incense, a scarecrow doll and flowers. This couple is a total delight to me. First match for her, second match for him and, they are cruising into their fourth month with no problems. He brought by the treats today and he is obviously so happy in this relationship. He owns his own business and so does she. They can both be a bit of a workaholic and neither of them can believe they have found someone who understands the time and commitment it takes to run your own business. This man was such a workaholic that I asked him in the interview “When are you going to date? How are you going to find time for someone?” He said “You find me the right lady and I will find the time.” True to his word, he is seeing her three times a week. They have taken one trip and have another planned for December. New York, five days. I called her to thank her and she said all the same wonderful things about him that he said about her. It made my day.
