Donna's Daily Diary - November 17, 2009

A client I matched was at a luncheon with a group of girlfriends and they decided to go on the computer to check out the men on one of the online services. To her surprise, there was the man I had just matched her with but he was 55 online and I had told her he was 61. She called me and I said “I can assure you he is 61 because I verified his driver’s license.” She said “I’m going to call him and have some fun with this.” She called him and said “Did you know your twin brother is online but he’s six years younger than you?” He didn’t think it was funny at all. I don’t think they will be seeing each other again. She asked me why he would lie about his age and I said “My guess is because he prefers to date younger women and he doesn’t want them to think he is too old for them.” She said several of the ladies whom had met men online discovered they were married after they went out with them a few times. I told her that was the biggest complaint I hear from women who meet men online. They don’t tell me they are divorced unless they are because part of the contract they sign states “If you have given me any false information, I can cancel your membership and keep your money.” The biggest complaint I hear from men is that they meet women who don’t look anything like their pictures.

My first appointment today is not emotionally available. I try very hard to determine emotionally availability before I invite someone in for the interview but occasionally someone slips through. He answered all my questions right on the phone but in the interview I discovered his four year relationship ended just two weeks ago. On the phone he said it had ended in January. He said he feels like it ended in January because that’s when they quit having sex, except for last Saturday night. He said he almost canceled his interview with me today because now he is confused. I asked him my “put it in perspective” question..”If I were going to match you with a lady who was in the same situation with a man as you are with this lady, would you want to meet her?” He said “Probably not.” I suggested we should meet again when he wasn’t confused.

Fox TV did an interview with me that is going to air tonight on the news between 9 and 10pm. It is always interesting and, sometimes surprising what they choose to show but it’s free advertising so I always take the chance!
